Project type: Self Initiated/College Brief

Design Brief: To create a new website for MA postgraduate group of UCCA Epsom. The brief required the new website to have a memorable and visual appeal to its target audience with effective delivery of the essential information, through added elements like photo gallery, blog, forum and formalities of Master’s level courses at Epsom.

Design Process: The possible logistic solutions for the new webof UCCA to re-establish itself as the leading design university in UK will require it to be much more confident, extrovert and of course should carry individual qualities which undoubtedly influence an outsider view’s and also, raise pride in current MA group.
The big idea: One of the key problems with the current MA group website is that it has no unique personality as a promising brand and carries a dull visual appeal. The UCCA trade name is not strong and confident enough to related itself to its target students and provide brand assurance to any concerned individual. But by merging the qualityof a simple magnet which are

> It attracts metal objects around it
> Never runs out of energy
> Hold things together
> Has an influencing effect in form of magnetic field

to the college ideology and strengths, it puts life in a dead brand and in its website. The MA UCCA Epsom can be now re-presented as a designers group which attract creativity and influence other people around them.

Taking magnetism as the prime element for the new MA website, the concept was further build up with lay outing web elements, setting appropriate typography, making new MA group visual identity and adding some interesting add-on features in the website for a complete web experience.
The typography:  To able to deliver memorable and an everlasting impression, the type face of the brand has to be clear enough to convey straight to thepoint message to its target audience. It was interesting to find that thechosen idea of magnet not only enhance the brand image but also can be visuallypresented in an interesting way.

If the “Arial” font, is used to form the word MA UCCAEPSOM, and is altered a slight bit, a common pattern of a “U” shape is found in each letter, which completely resemble a Horse shoe magnet which also is formed of U shape
Adding 3 colours to the linked words differentiate them separately and glossy effect on the text add zing and elegance to the identity.
The layouts: The front end of the website has to be active and appealing and at the same time shouldn’t be over flowing with the information which generally most of the other art colleges have currently, which leaves a user, feeling lost in the end. The MA website could be inviting, if it allows a userto sink in in its designing pattern which carries the big idea of magnetism along.
Therefore in the background of the website, a U shape magnet is shown on which there are some specific adjectives are stacked upon, which nicely portray about the quality of education in MA. In the foreground, a light card/paper shape platform runs all the animation and content of the website, making the overall layout comforting and acceptable at first glance.
The animation and virtual tour: The introductory animation unswervingly enlightens the user about the core working style and creeds of MA UCCA Epsom designers groupas it shows word “creativity” following a running magnet. It instantly gives the idea to the user to what to expect next in terms of magnetic creativity.
Where as on the other hand, an add-on feature of introducing a virtual tour of the Epsom campus was an addition input to complete the expressive nature of the MA website. In order to get a smooth animation, more then 450 images were shot in sequence by moving 3 steps per shot, starting from main entrance to all the academic areas of the campus.
